Percipient is Methodics’ comprehensive IP Lifecycle Management platform, enabling companies of all sizes to have complete control over the design and integration of both internal and external design elements including libraries, new analog and digital design, and standalone IP.
Percipient for Enterprise maximizes internal and external design traceability and reuse by tightly coupling IP creators with IP consumers. Centralized cataloging, automated notifications, extendible permissions, and integrated analytics provide the transparency and control needed to streamline collaboration. Percipient’s unique IP/block-centric approach to management ensures everything from design creation through to defect tracking is associated with the design hierarchy.
IP Lifecycle management
Methodics IP lifecycle management ensures complete visibility into the state and usage of IP from the moment it enters the system until an SoC is delivered. Supporting advanced tracking and management across multiple projects, multiple sites, and multiple generations of the IP’s evolution – it ensures IP is no longer a black box dropped into the design, but rather a critical piece that must be understood and tracked at every step in the design process.
The system builds on Methodics advanced design centric data management to ensure critical design information is always available, and any potential problem can be instantly reproduced.
Complementing this data management are unique capabilities to manage IP from Acquisition, through Qualification, into Distribution, and finally Integration into an SoC. At every step, advanced analytics technology provides unmatched transparency into the design process.
Proven design data management
Percipient builds on leading industry proven DM solutions including Perforce, Subversion, Git and others – expanding them to manage the unique challenges of working with advanced semiconductor and IP design.
Leveraging existing solutions ensures your data is never locked-in to a propriety platform – enabling customers to take advantage of available infrastructure. All data is freely accessible, and customers benefit from the continual technology improvement of widely deployed DM platforms.
The IP centric nature of the solution automatically manages complex file relationships found in semiconductor design, and provides tools to manage the large binary files common in EDA tools, including multi-site data management and disaster recovery.
Complete execution history
Data is key to understanding current and past state of IP, and identifying potential issues before they become major problems.
All activities within the IP lifecycle are captured – not only the type of activity (build, test, release, etc), but workspace configurations, tool versions, seeds, machine, users, and other key information.
This data provides a transparent view into the IP, enables advanced data mining, and facilitates predictable reproduction of any failed action.
Flexible Data Management
The most important aspect of any IP management system is having IP available for designers to utilize. To ensure a fully populated system we enable you to utilize any form of existing data no matter the location or the form – native file system data, various DM repositories, and homegrown IP management solutions are all supported data sources.
Everything is automatically abstracted from the design teams – for them it is a seamless IP catalog with all IP available on demand from a central location.
Methodics analog and digital IP design management tools
New IP creation can leverage the Methodics design management platform for analog and digital design. This allows designers to commit data to the IP repository, carry out qualification, and perform releases directly from the design tools they use everyday.
With no additional effort IP design teams can interface directly with the central IP management and SoC teams.

Comprehensive Quality management
Unproven IP represents a significant risk to any SoC design. To ensure quality, the IP management system can be configured to ensure IP undergoes qualification prior to being made available to the design team(s).
Once qualification has been successfully completed, IP is made visible through a formal release process and can be utilized in a design. All information regarding the regressions used in the qualifications can be made available to the teams using the IP to increase confidence in the IP.
Superscalar release server
Methodics streamlines and accelerates the IP releases utilizing a superscalar release server that can support even the largest IPs.
As an IP release candidate is made available it is automatically verified. If the candidate should fail, the pipeline will automatically re-order to accommodate other candidates. When a candidate is successfully verified it is given a release seal in the IP tracking catalog and made available to the team.
If design teams have requested a push of new releases, these new releases will be automatically distributed to their IP caches, making them available to end users immediately.
Detailed IP Release tracking
Every aspect of the IP lifecycle is tracked and visible thanks to easy to understand configurable dashboards. For any given release designers can see the projects the IP has been used in, any outstanding bugs, derivative designs, regression status and much more.
This detailed information ensures transparency and benefits both the IP creators as well as the IP consumers.
The most critical part of IP distribution is making the design team aware of IP available to them complete with detailed release and usage information.
The IP management platform includes an integrated IP catalog with powerful permission and filtering capabilities. This ensures all members of the design team can find IP (and only the IP) that is available to them.
Additionally, since usage is tracked across projects, potential users of IP can collaborate with other teams to deploy IP more effectively.
Parent-child aware defect tracking
A critical component of defect tracking for IP management is to understand and track all derivatives and configurations of an IP to ensure issues can be quickly communicated across all IP deployments.
Integrated defect tracking interfaces directly to industry standard tools enabling IP status to be tracked using your existing infrastructure. These existing tools are expanded to create a fully IP aware defect tracking system complete with the ability to track complex parent-child relationships.
The result is the most advanced IP centric defect tracking solution available.
An effective notification process speeds communication, improves overall quality, and can save significant amount of wasted effort in a design.
The powerful notification infrastructure enables users to be automatically notified when significant events occur that would impact their design work – for example IP releases, bugs, approvals, etc.
Additionally, the administrators of the system can define additional customer specific notification criteria to fit seamlessly into existing design processes.
Scalable Distribution Infrastructure
Whether working globally or locally, it is important to ensure that users of an IP have the data they need when they need it – no easy task when some IP data is measured in the 10’s of gigabytes.
Methodics’ unique IP distribution infrastructure complements traditional DM replication with specialized IP caching technology. This means that when an IP is used within a project all members of the team will have access to the same data at the same time. Data appears local to all designers, hiding significant latency that may exist in multi-site global projects. Flexible IP distribution options means IP can be automatically “pushed” out to users of the IP, or can be “pulled” on request.
This IP caching technology also significantly reduces the overall disk space requirements for a project since all references to the IP point back to the original cache entry.
Configuration and workspace management
The workspace is the central component of SoC integration, and the point where IP and the rest of the design come together. The Methodics IP management platform includes comprehensive configuration and workspace controls to ensure that designers have access to the data they need and only the data they need.
Comprehensive controls enable the administrators to determine the design files, IP, tools, machines, and other infrastructure components that are available to team members.
Workspace components can be selected from local and remote repositories completely transparently to the designers. Should a problem arise during the design process, the support team can reproduce every aspect of the workspace to ensure rapid resolution.
Real-time multi-site workspace creation
The powerful workspace management engine reduces disk space requirements and facilitates real-time workspace setup and delete, even for workspaces requiring data from remote repositories. This is enabled using self-maintaining replication caches with high performance parallelized syncs, ensuring that you have the data you need, when you need it. Unlike competitors solutions we do not require changes to the underlying infrastructure, greatly simplifying adoption.
Design configurations are stored centrally and enforce common working data across design centers. Updates can be configured on a “push” or “pull” basis to ensure that all designers on a project stay in sync with the latest design configuration.
Customizable task-specific dashboards with RESTful API
Data is key to making informed project decisions. The Methodics design management platform integrates a powerful data analytics platform, based on an extensible widget based design.
Default dashboard configurations are provided for common design tasks such as IP qualification, IP release status, and IP usage information. While we provide the best possible out of the box experience for our customers with these pre-defined dashboards, we also realize that no two companies are the same.
To accommodate the unique needs of each customer the RESTful API enables the creation of any number of unique capabilities including – company specific reporting, industry compliance, or integration of existing corperate systems.
